Glass Study Group - March 13, 2003
The
Triad - Replacements Glass Study Group met March 13th with the topic
being Green Glass. Over 80 objects were presented for sharing by
the various members participating. Green glass ranged from Fenton
jade of the 1930s to "Bristol" styled European jade of
the late 1800s, from Westmoreland green dolphin compotes to Viking
green Epic patterned divided serving plates from the 1950s, Steuben
green cut to signed Moser with heavy gold and enamel. As usual,
the variety of forms, places of origin, and shades of glass covered
by the topic impressed all those in attendance. Several green glass
kerosene lamps were shared. One of the lessons of the evening was
looking at the bubbles in air trap glass forms. It was observed
that Ericson Glass and Pairpoint Glass used crystal balls with air
traps as bases, in stems, etc. and that forms were often similar.
Pairpoint air traps bubbles were described as being arranged in
vertical columns that spiraled or slightly swirled. Ericson bubbles
were in straight, tidy vertical columns.
