Glass Study Group - August 14, 2003
The
August glass study group theme was glass with People. As the snap shot shows it
was a diverse offering indeed. From the elegant Cambridge glass Draped Lady and
Bashful Charlotte flower frogs to Santa Claus figural Christmas bulbs! We had
cup plates with people imagery, bottles, pattern glass, Malachite art glass (the
dark green nudes vase) and more. Those are Fenton's praying children in Peking
Blue from the 1970s and the green bottle is Moses, a Poland Water Bottle form
used for whiskey mid 19th century. The cobalt blue bottle is a 1950s copy of a
19th century Historical flask. This colorful one held Lestoil, a household cleaning
product. Several decorations on stemware (from Central Glass to US Glass Co.)
were shared. The group was amazed at how much and how diverse the glass embraces
the human form!
